Fun Day

The year is nearly over ... but before we go have a look at the fun we had on the Water Slide last week!

Beach Trip

A couple of weeks ago Rooms 12 and 13 went to Mairangi Bay to learn how to be safe at the beach. Everyone had a fantastic day and came back to school knowing more about the safe areas to swim, what to do if we get into trouble and also sun safety.
Parents came with us to help out and some even brought sausages! We played games, built sand sculptures and we also got to swim in the surf on boogie boards. A great day was had by everyone.

Are We Waste Wise?

Room 12 spent one whole day collecting all their rubbish. They then brought this to school sorted it into piles. We constructed a chart to display the amount of each type that we had individually and as a class. We then discussed whether it could be recycled or reused and also considered ways that we could reduce the amount of rubbish we had accumulated. As the term progresses we will learn more about waste and keep you informed of our findings. For now we have a picture showing all our rubbish!!! Do you know which categories can be recycled?

Goodbye Mr Frazer

Rooms 12 and 16 Host the School Assembly

Wow! What a fun time we had last week hosting the assembly. All through the week we practised and then on Friday we hosted the assembly. This year we decided to base it around Recycling and acted out a story called 'Look after our Planet' featuring Charlie and Lola. We also sang a couple of songs about taking care of our environment and shared some important facts.
We think our assembly was informative and fun and hope you all enjoyed watching it as much as we enjoyed presenting it?

Culture Inquiry

Earlier this term we found out how our families came to live in New Zealand. Some of us arrived recently and others came to New Zealand over 100 hundred years ago. We had to focus on one person and find out how they traveled, why they left their own country, what their journey was like and how they felt when they arrived in New Zealand.
To present our inquiries we either made a passport, designed a poster or created a key note. All of us had to share these with the class. It was very interesting to hear the different stories, especially those who had made the journey themselves.
We have a display of some of these presentations in our visual bay. You are welcome to come and have a look.

Our Family Group, and the children in Room 12, made collage book characters from card and old magazines. Everyone had a lot of fun and they turned out very well.

What do you think?

Mrs Waters heard on the radio that there was a difference in reading comprehension levels between children reading paper books and those reading i-books. We were asked whether the statement 'Children reading on i-pads or i-books are better readers than those reading paper books?' was true or false and why? This is what we thought.

Term 1 Culture Wall

Holiday Static Images

Room 12 have created static images about an event from the holidays. We had to choose the event and create a picture that we thought clearly showed the message. We used coloured paper to create the image and wrote a short phrase to go with it. This was also glued on to the page using magazine letters. You can see them more clearly on our classroom wall.

Cycle Safety

Last term we took part in cycle safety. We had to have our helmets and bikes checked to ensure they were safe and worked properly. They brought heaps of bikes for us to use if we did not have our own. During the sessions we learnt how to signal, stop, go around obstacles and look left and right. Some of us had never ridden a bike before and by the end off the sessions we were off!!
It was so much fun and we all hope they come again.
