Rugby Show

During the last week of Term 2 we were lucky to be visited by two women who put on a show all about the history of rugby.

We learned some very interesting facts about players and the game. Some of these we will be able to use next term when we will spend time focusing on the Rugby World Cup.

Some of the children were lucky enough to get on the stage to help and others were chosen to answer quiz questions. It was a whole lot of fun and we are looking forward to following the rugby next term.

Middle Syndicate visit to Howick Historical Village

Last week we visited the Howick Historical Village and had a great time learning about how people lived in the early years in New Zealand. We were especially interested in finding out about the games that were played in those days because we are learning all about games and how they have changed over time.

We wrote recounts about our visit when we returned to school.

Ofa wrote .... On Tuesday it was a beautiful day and we were going on a trip. I said, "WOW, this is going to be fun!" We had morning tea first and after this we went in our groups around the village ... The scariest teacher was the lady in the old school. She wouldn't even let me say a word. When my leg was stuck I said, "OOOW!" and the lady growled at me.....

Yesel began her recount .... I think it is going to be a wonderful day! On my mum's birthday the Middle Syndicate, teachers and parents travelled to the Howick Historical Village. When we got off the bendy bus we carried our bags and put them in a wooden cuboid ...

Andy wrote .... I can't believe we are going to Howick Village. It has been around since the 17th and 18th century. Our school trip began because we had a topic about games. We got to play with ancient toys and games. We also explored a rich house and I thought it was a haunted house .... We then went to a school where the teacher was scary and mean. Pippi's nails were smacked because they were dirty. We also had a spelling test and the boys lost to the girls because Judy was better than us at spelling ...

Chantelle wrote about the games .... One lady came out and drew a semi-circle on the rocks. She called out, "ladies come here" and that meant girls. She showed us the fun games that were played in the olden days. They were log walkers, stilts, hoop and skimmer, diablo, graces and hobby horses. Then we went to the haunted house. We had to play a game that was disgusting! It was called 'neck pass' and we had to pass a sack from our necks. It was like we were kissing!....

Science and Technology Week

In Week 7 the whole school took part in Science and Technology Week. We have written some thoughts on the experiences we had during the week.

Michael - I enjoyed K'nex the most because it was fun and we built some awesome stuff. I didn't enjoy the technology challenge where you had to try and guess how many or how much because I didn't really like them coming in our maths time!

Eden - I enjoyed the rotation around the middle classrooms the most because we got to make rockets out of balloons. Something I found hard was making the luge track out of newspaper because it was very difficult to make.

Casey - I enjoyed making a marble track with my team the most because it was fun. I did not enjoy making the marble track at home because my track broke.

Soowon - I enjoyed making marble movers for homework the most because there were lots of interesting models and I made one too. I didn't enjoy making the heat hats because mine was too small.

Aspen - I enjoyed making the marble movers for homework because it was fun doing something with my dad and Bella. Something I learned was that you have to curve the slide so that the greenstone could travel down the slide safely.

Christian - I enjoyed when we made the ravine because I got chosen for the finals. Something I learned about the ravine was that it had to have something to stop it at the end.
