Japan's Tactics

John Kirwin is the coach of the Japanese team and he should select his best teams to play the All Blacks. But the team goals are to win against Tonga and Canada so they can get into the next round. So as not to get players tired or injured the Japanese are not playing all their best players against the All Blacks.

Sonny Bill Loses Shirt

This is Sonny Bill Williams.
He is really good looking.
He has a great body.
He works hard, eats properly and exercises lots.
His shirt got ripped during a tackle but it wasn't supposed to rip.
It is supposed to be rip-proof, sweat-proof and odour-proof.
Adidas make the t-shirts and they are not happy.
But at least his ripped t-shirt goes to charity.

Rugby World Cup Opens

The rugby World Cup ceremony at Eden Park enthralled 60,000 spectators.
NZ and the tournament's story was told through a series of chapters.
It started with the Maori myth of fire. Moko projections shot across the field from a lone woman calling a Karanga.
A young boy wearing Canterbury colours scored the try of his dreams. All Black Jonah Lomu joined the boy on the try line. The tournament's anthem, 'World in Union' was performed by New Zealander Ria Paul, surrounded by hundreds of dancers.
As the final haka rumbled through the stadium the ground was ringed with the fireworks. The Cup was finally here!

The Opening Ceremony

On Friday afternoon the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup was on. There was a huge party on the waterfront and 200,000 people went along. There was a massive fireworks display. Our family went to Devonport Wharf to see it. There were lots of problems with the trains and crowds, and some people didn't make it on time to see the game.

Rugby World Cup

Wow!! What a huge event is taking place in New Zealand right now and Room 19 are learning many things connected with the Rugby World Cup.
We will be learning some interesting facts about the countries in Pool C: Australia, Ireland, Italy, USA, Russia. We are following our teams and reading some cool articles about what they are up to and how they are playing.

We are also keeping a close eye on the All Blacks because some of us are very big fans, including Mrs Waters who particularly likes Sonny Bill Williams :-)
By the end of the Term we should know a little bit about the history of Rugby and the Webb Ellis Trophy.
